New World Guide to Runeglass Gems: How to Craft and Use Them (2023)

Runeglass Gems is a new endgame crafting addition to New World with the 1.7 "Brimstone Sands" update. This guide explains everything you need to know, from types and effects to how to create them!

Rune Crystal Gem Types and Effects

Runeglass Gems are an upgraded version of the existing level 5 gems. In addition to the basic effects of a gem, they come with an additional effect that can vary depending on the type of equipment it is placed on, weapon or armor.

There are currently 11 variations of Runeglass Gems for each basic type of gem. Each one is explained in detail below, but here's the full list first:

• Abyssal
• arboreal
• electrified
• empowered
• energy
• frozen
• festering
• sanguijuela
• exhausting
• normal sight
• Siphon

nether spyglassit is attuned to the Element of Void, granting bonus Void-based effects. When applied to a weapon, it deals a DoT of Corrosion equal to 8% of the weapon's Damage as Void per second for 2 seconds. In armor, it will increase Void damage by 2%.

arboreal lunetteit is attuned to the element of nature, granting additional nature-based effects. When applied to a weapon, it inflicts a DoT of poison equal to 8% of weapon damage as nature per second for 2 seconds. In armor, it will increase nature damage by 2%.

electrified rune crystalit is attuned to the Element of Lightning, granting additional Lightning-based effects. When applied to a weapon, it deals a DoT Surge equal to 8% of the weapon's damage as a bolt of lightning per second for 2 seconds. In armor, it will increase lightning damage by 2%.

Fortified Rune Magnifierit is attuned to the Arcane Element, granting additional Arcane-based effects. When applied to a weapon, it deals a Hex DoT equal to 8% weapon damage as Arcane per second for 2 seconds. In armor, it will increase arcane damage by 2%.

Energizing Magnifierit is not attuned to an element, but instead provides stamina recovery. When applied to a weapon, successful hits with that weapon will restore 4 Stamina per hit. In armor, it will only recover 1 Stamina. This effect has a 3 second cooldown and can stack on equipment up to a maximum of 9 Stamina per hit.

frozen rune crystalit is attuned to the element of ice, granting ice-based bonus effects. When applied to a weapon, it deals a Frostburn DoT equal to 8% weapon damage as Frost per second for 2 seconds. On armor, it will increase ice damage by 2%.

ignited rune glassit is attuned to the element of fire, granting bonus fire-based effects. When applied to a weapon, inflicts a burning DoT equal to 8% of the weapon's damage as fire per second for 2 seconds. In armor, it will increase fire damage by 2%.

Runic Crystal Leechit is not attuned to an element, but instead provides health recovery. When applied to a weapon, successful hits with that weapon will restore 3% of the damage per hit as Health. With armor, you will only recover 1% of the damage per hit as health. This effect has a 2 second cooldown and can be stacked on equipment for up to 8% damage per hit as health.

Magnifier of man of punishmentit is not attuned to an element, but instead deals melee damage. When applied to a weapon, it will increase melee damage by 2%. With armor, it will increase melee damage by 1%. This effect can stack on equipment for up to 7% more melee damage.

With armor, it will only recover 0.8 mana. This effect has a 2 second cooldown and can stack on equipment up to a maximum of 5.5 mana per hit.

How to make rune crystal jewelry

Creating runic crystal jewelry is not an easy task, especially if you intend to do it with a new character. The crafting process requires some farming, as well as crafting level 180 weapons and level 180 stoning.

Rune Crystal Case Crafting

The Runeglass box is the heaviest part of the creation. Crafting a Runeglass shell requires three materials that fall at a slow rate in Brimstone Sands. In total, 10 Glyph Stones, 3 Ancient Globs of Ectoplasm, 10 Charged Sand, and 4 Sulfur are required.

Glyph Stones

Two of these three rare drops areGlyph Stoneswhich will mainly come as drops from various elite chests in Brimstone Sands. The mob in the specified regions can also drop them, but at a lower rate. The region in which you open a chest or defeat a mob will determine which Glyph Stones you get. Below is a quick list of Glyph Stones and their drop locations.

In addition to looting them from chests or enemies, they are also commonly given as quest rewards.

While they are unique sources, they do grant 5 of a given Glyph Stone, making them great to start crafting with. Below is a quick list of Glyph Stones that are offered as quest rewards.

Ancient globe of ectoplasm

Ancient Globs of Ectoplasm are another resource that is a limited drop from a few select areas, but are generally rarer than Glyph Stones due to their higher rarity.

Ectoplasm Ancient Gooers can be looted from Supply Chests, Elite Chests, and Mobs in the following regions:

• hell castle
• Kerberos Castle
• castle bridge
• castle food
• Jupiter's Forest
• Naples
• Novo Rhacotis
• the grand bazaar
• the front lines

charged sand and sulfur

The remaining components of Charged Sand and Sulfur can be found throughout the Brimstone Sands region.

Charged sand is made from pieces of sandstone obtained from sandstone mining. Sandstone can be found in high concentrations in the surrounding desert.spontaneous oasis, the deserts that surroundcastle food, and aroundCamas Ta-Bitjet. Otherwise, they appear scattered throughout the arid regions marked in white throughout the region.

Sulfur is produced from sulfur pieces obtained from sulfur mining. Brimstone is located near Acid Pools, of which Brimstone has five. These acidic pools are known as the Orcus Pools, Mercury Hot Springs, New Thermopylae, Spodu Hot Springs, and Heka's Cauldron. Orcus Pools are the largest of the Acid Pools, making them the ideal source of the material.

Create the Rune Crystal Box

Runeglass Cases are crafted in a Forge and require 180 Blacksmithing to craft. Along with certain weapons, this places them among the higher levels needed to craft any item in a forge or use weapon crafting.It is highly recommended to be level 200 in Weapon Crafting.

Each Runeglass box has its own distinct combination of Glyph Stones, which can make some easier to craft than others, just because of the origin of the respective Glyph Stones. The following table lists each combination required for each respective container.

Creating a Runeglass Gem

With the Runeglass Box ready, it's time to create a Runeglass Gem with it! Compared to the Runeglass Case itself, you're much more likely to have everything you need on hand. Despite their low material requirements, it will still take 180 Stonecutting to craft.

Crafting a Rune Loupe Gem requires a Pristine Cut Gem you wish to upgrade, the Rune Loupe Box of your choice, 2 Pure Solvents, and a single Gold Bar.

The steepest part of this craft's requirements is the 180 stone cut to put it all together. Unfortunately, it's not possible to craft more than one, even if you're level 200 and have the entire crafting kit.

Which rune glass gems to use

While Runeglass gems have a variety of options, some are clearly winners over others. This is not to say that they are the absolute best in slots, but they should be kept in mind when perfecting your end game setups.

Here's a quick table of what I would consider recommended options. Below that table is the reasoning for the options listed. Feel free to experiment outside of these recommendations and see what works for you!

The damage-boosting Runeglass Gems, specifically nether, ignited, frozen, punishing, and targeted; they are worth depending on your current load. While they don't provide an incredibly high damage boost, every little bit counts.

For weapons, elemental upgrades can be a good consideration for weapons that attack slower but have higher base damage. This mostly applies to Great Ax and War Hammer, but can apply to Bow, Greatsword (without Onslaught Stance), and Musket. They all have fairly high attribute damage rates, but hit less frequently due to their slower nature.

Punishment is great for melee-only builds, where Sighted does the same for ranged and mage builds. If you use an elemental gem, you can also use the respective damage boosts to increase this over the weapon's default.

Powerup can also be a good option, making it easier to maintain enough stamina to block, dodge, or in Greatsword's case, attack. It works well with slower weapons that are more likely to trigger it on every attack, but lack stamina recovery options.

Siphon can be a great option for supports, as it can help them a lot with mana upkeep when needed. I wouldn't use them for general mage purposes, as the gains won't make up for the potential damage loss from not going that route. If you still want to use one as a mage, I recommend going with the weapon variation, as a DoT effect won't provide much of a damage loss in most cases.

The leech, however, can be a good tool for mages, who often lack support options. It may be a more defensive option than adding a DoT to your weapon or just using Sighted's raw damage. It can also work well for faster melee weapons that don't have a lot of sustain.
