The number one problem with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX is that the $60 price tag isn't justified. While it's a full 3D remake with added features like mega evolutions, eight staff members, and metagame fixes like autosaves, it still feels far from being a modern console game that should be worth $60. 3DS in terms of graphics and gameplay, and the price for 3DS games was $50, averaging $40.

Overall, it's a copy with very little detail in the 3D models of the characters, so much so that you don't notice the facial changes during cutscenes. This can be attributed to the fact that the graphics and resources of modern games are so high. This is especially true on the Switch, which is defined by games likebreath of the wild.Expectations are also much higher, which makes games like this seem out of date. When it comes down to it, there isn't enough added to a game that was brand new for $20 to justify asking $60 for it, modern console or not.

One of the early saviors of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game was a neutral attack that cost no points. It was like a standard fight if your character had four super moves with him. It would be very annoying to see your team members randomly use this move instead of much more effective moves during combat, which is another non-update the game has gone through in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX and still contains AI issues. But that gameplay element being removed slowed down the dungeon crawling experience and likely made it harder than it needed to be.

No real AI has been changed from the original game, nor have the maps involving the eight team members. That number is double what you had before, and while it's a fun addition, it often gets in the way of how the game works.

Because there are so many tiny runners, you're forced to stand in a conga line with the enemy AI set to run directly behind your team. Those at the back of the line can't fight forward, so if they attack from the front, you really only have two fighters that can reach the enemy Pokemon. Also, the enemy pokemon will constantly hit the end of the line, meaning you're either leaving those two behind or your progress is halted every five minutes to go back and help them.

With so many team members to manage, it needed to be a bigger bag. Right off the bat, you have very little space in your bag, which pretty much turns Pokémon Mystery Dungeon into a survival game. In the original version, there were more slots given to players to help them survive, but now, with less slots and more team members, it can be a completely different experience.

The reason for the disasters in the game world can be summed up in one phrase: "don't touch me". Why a generally selfish and petty coach decided to mess with the game's tailnine Caldas,she cast a curse on him, turning him into a pokémon, thus disrupting the absolute balance of nature.

5 Player character memories

In a tragic sense, the player is never allowed their human memories to be "wiped". It seems so wrong in so many ways when a person should have good reputations and morals to save the planet but just oppose someone's selfish actions. A player who misses his old life can be a good motivation to do the job right. It actually sounds like pokemon racism towards humans where they believe that all humans are evil and won't do the right thing.

No information is given on who the player character is as a person, but this leaves a hole in the logic because it seems they've already judged the person they chose to be evil or of bad character. This leads to the simple question of why? If they could choose anyone, let them be good-hearted people, so that erasing the memories wouldn't be a complicated and necessary step.

4 Amnesia Gardevoir

Cursing Gardevoir over a selfish trainer is pointless. It seems variable what she knows and what she doesn't, she somehow knows everything about the curse so she can tell the player her true past, but she doesn't remember her trainer. This is inconsistent and largely unexplained because knowing one thing requires knowing other information. In order to tell a player character that he is not an "evil trainer", he must first be able to tell who he is.

3 Gengar doesn't really change

The idea behind curses like the one placed on a selfish Trainer to become a Gengar is usually for the purpose of changing a character or teaching a lesson. Gengar doesn't completely change, he's still a horrible and selfish person/pokémon. He is a flat character and only softens his personality when he has no choice but to reveal that he is a selfish Trainer. If he's anything like Gengar, he looks even worse when he tries to commit atrocities and seeks world domination.

2 Beat up a bunch of construction workers

Right before the nice world fight, the game's story takes a turn to defeat a bunch of Mankeys, where the pokémon who hired you to do this has food it likes and will forgive you for hitting them and fixing their house. It's almost like the pokémon stole the item to begin with, and it made them so upset.

1 The player is still a Pokémon, but is that fair?'

The final point of the whole story is that the player does not return to being human, but remains a pokémon forever after he decides he wants to. But the problem is, the memory of their previous life has been erased so they never have agency or a fair chance to decide. It's not a fair choice if a person doesn't know what they're missing and ends up doing it when the person is dead because they lost all sense of self afterward, which is a tragic crime.
